Description

The LED module MAX7219 is a device that can control an 8x8 matrix of LEDs or a 7-segment LED display. It is based on the MAX7219 IC, a type of integrated circuit that can drive and individually control multiple LEDs. The MAX7219 is a compact, high-performance 8-digit LED display driver that can be connected to a microcontroller such as the Raspberry Pi via a 3-wire serial peripheral interface (SPI) bus.

This module typically contains a MAX7219 IC, an 8x8 LED matrix or a 7-segment LED display, and a PCB with built-in passive components such as resistors and capacitors required for proper operation of the module.

This module is widely used in various projects such as digital clocks, LED displays, ticker boards and games. It can be controlled by a Raspberry Pi via the SPI bus and the corresponding library, and can be programmed to display various patterns or numbers. In addition, the MAX7219 allows multiple units to be cascaded to control even more LEDs or 7-segment displays.

This 7-segment LED module with 8-bit relies on the widely used MAX7219 driver to control the individual segments.

The module allows you to control an eight-digit 7-segment display with only three I/O pins!
